Pope Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum really opened my eyes to workplace problems that I wasn't really exposed to since I'm unemployed. Mention things like unions and make it clear that they are of great importance to any worker. It also includes things like how an employee should treat their boss and vice versa, the conditions under which a person should and should not work, and how valuable a worker is to the country. Not only does it state what you will face or experience eventually, but it also gives good advice. I believe people should indulge in this document because it provides not only concrete advice but also religious advice. It's uplifting and incredibly honest. It tells the reader things that the government probably wouldn't tell you or encourage you to do. He also emphasizes that, even if this world secularizes everything, God can always be found in the midst of everything. This document is perfect for working conditions. Today, even things like slavery are still relevant at this time. History tends to repeat itself and the issues that concerned him as he wrote this document still exist today. Unions have been created, the poor continue to suffer, and the Church persists in its defense against the things that are not right in the world.
