Topic > Rhetorical analysis of Obama's speech - 1202

In America there is a separation between church and state, however Obama does not follow this separation well in his inaugural speech especially because he makes multiple references to God. In the opening of Obama's speech Obama says, “Freedom is a gift from God,” this opening statement is where Obama establishes his connection between his faith and God. However, America has tried to maintain a separation between God and government. In the anecdotes that Obama uses to express the main goal of his second presidential term, he uses God as an example. For example, “she is American; she is free and equal, not only in the eyes of God but also in ours” is not only saying that she deserved equality, but clearly emphasizes that she is equal in the eyes of God
