Topic > A Career in Broadcasting - 917

"Bosh bounce, out to Allen, Allen...BANG!" shouts Miami Heat host Jeff Van Gundy. Broadcasting is a profession that requires speaking and writing skills to announce live sports games for spectators to hear. When broadcasting a live game, the main goal is to entertain the spectators (Ferguson Publishing Company 72). Sports casting is an underrated profession due to the importance of their role in the game. Broadcasters not only entertain fans, but also add exciting commentary that explains the game and provides details on statistics. My goal in life is to become a play-by-play broadcaster for professional sports. To properly explore a career in sports broadcasting, educational requirements, working conditions, salary, and benefits are vital factors to consider. Before applying for a broadcasting job, you must meet the educational requirements. Graduating from high school is an important first step on the road to becoming a journalist or sports announcer. According to the Ferguson Publishing Company, “television sports broadcasters who broadcast sports news typically have a degree in communications or journalism” (73). Most play-by-play broadcasters for radio stations have journalism skills. It is essential that broadcasters have journalistic skills because before announcing a match they must have a surplus of information on the players, coaches and even the story. Additionally, broadcasters need excellent communication skills. Justin Hoke of Sport Casters states, “Other requirements are having a good voice, excellent verbal and interviewing skills, good looks, and a solid command of the sport in general” (Hoke 1). The Ferguson Publishing Company explains: “take the course… middle of paper… finally, understanding how much money I will earn and the benefits that will come from the broadcast are important. In the future, I hope to find myself sitting in a press box screaming because Lebron James just scored a game winner in double overtime.Works CitedAGCAS Editors: Job Description." | Prospects.ac.uk.
