The classic mystery novel, Sherlock Holmes, features a mystery detective Sherlock Holmes and his fellow military doctor, Doctor John Watson. The story revolves around the main character, Sherlock Holmes, and his unique method of solving crimes. The story is primarily focused on Sherlock and his abilities, which begs the question of the importance of Dr. Watson's character, both to the character of Sherlock Holmes, and to the readers. The first reason why Dr. Watson might be important to Sherlock's character is because he makes Sherlock more "human". If you've ever seen a Sherlock movie or TV show, the first thing you'll notice about Sherlock is his gigantic ego and his crustacean attitude towards other people. He thinks highly of himself. And this is where the character of Dr. Watson comes in. It teaches Sherlock to be a little more human, to show a little emotion. Without Dr. Watson's human personality, Sherlock might simply be consumed by his demons, or his bad side, a drug addict side. You can see this in almost any Sherlock Holmes book or TV show....
