Diversity is a very important issue that needs to be understood in a company for many reasons. The reason is that there is a very strong demand for diverse people in the workplace and everyone must be given equal opportunities. Unfair treatment of any person is illegal. Another reason is that having a more diverse management panel in a company improves organizational effectiveness. There are many different ways one can discriminate against someone else. Age, gender, religion, race, sexual orientation and disability are all major diversity issues that emerge daily, especially in the workplace. Age becomes very much a discrimination topic, because many times employees are looking for someone who may have more experience, for example, in new technology, so most likely a younger person who has not attended school would know more about that new technology versus someone who is older and has been out of practice for many years. While equality between men and women in the United States has evened out somewhat, women still tend to earn slightly less money in the workplace than men, which can cause issues with diversity and equality of gender. To date there are only a few jobs where it is almost completely stereotyped that only men or only women do certain jobs which could influence a person in charge of hiring a new employee to hire a man instead of a woman if all the other employees are a Man .
