Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare The play Romeo and Juliet is set in an affluent suburb of the city of Verona in Italy. Romeo and Juliet is a play about love and passion between two young people. It is also about the fate of the two "star-crossed lovers", who ultimately take their own lives due to misunderstandings. You could say that Romeo and Juliet had too much bad luck and the play makes you think "if only..." If only the messenger had delivered the letter, if only Juliet had woken up earlier... there are so many unfortunate possibilities in the comedy .In this comedy there is a useless feud because it is not mentioned what it is about, the only mention of a reason in the comedy is the prologue when it says "Two families both similar in dignity……. From the ancient rancor they break apart to new mutiny''. There is a feeling at the beginning of the play when the prince arrives and wants the violence to stop. The first time we see Lord Capulet is when he tries to get involved in a fight between Samson, Gregory Benvolio and Tybalt. his first word shows that he is hot-headed because he says ''……give me my long sword, oh!'' this shows that he is not thinking about himself he is not thinking about his age he is only thinking about fighting and searching to save face in front of the citizens of Verona. He does this not only to save face, but also because of the feud which is demonstrated when he says, "My sword, I say!" Old Montague has arrived... he waves his blade despite me. This first sighting of Lord Capulet is not favorable because he is just showing his stubbornness instead of leaving everything to the youth due to his age. The next time we will see Lord Capulet in the play is when he talks to Paris about Paris wanting to marry Juliet here we see a calmer Lord Capulet who shows his protective paternal side because he tells Paris "he hasn't seen the change of fourteen years.. . let two more summers wither" in their pride' this shows us that he now acts older and wiser as he should have acted from the beginning.
