Global WarmingGlobal warming is a serious epidemic that is affecting the earth due to the recklessness of its inhabitants. Even a small change in temperature due to global warming affects the earth and its inhabitants. If the temperature were to rise further, this could cause drastic changes and affect the earth and its population. A huge temperature difference can directly and indirectly cause loss of life and harm animals. The hard part is that despite what many nations, companies, cities and people are starting to do to reduce global warming emissions. The world is emitting more carbon dioxide into the air than ever before. The current amount is 385 parts per million (ppm), higher than at any time in the last 800,000 years (Gary Braasch, 2005). Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the air and oceans near the Earth's surface in recent decades and its likely continuation. Rising global temperatures will cause sea levels to rise and will likely increase the intensity of extreme weather events and change the amount and type of precipitation. Other effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, trade routes, retreating glaciers, species extinction, and an increase in the range of disease vectors. Another reason greenhouse gases have increased is due to a decrease in the amount of plant life, commonly called deforestation. Plant life is the only known thing on earth that consumes carbon dioxide. The destruction of forests creates more heat because trees are able to store a large amount of CO2 in their structures. One tree absorbs about 13 pounds of CO2 per year, and each acre of forest absorbs about 2.8 tons of CO2. (Begley, Sharon.
