The number of people who smoke has increased dramatically over the years. A cigarette is very toxic. Cigarettes are made of arsenic, lead, tar and these are just some of the more than 7,000 chemicals found in tobacco smoke. The age of people who smoke becomes younger and younger as the years go by. Smoking is a leading cause of death in North America, and innocent people should not die from it. Cigarette smoking should be banned in public places due to the health risks to people exposed to second-hand smoke. Even though people know how harmful smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It's a personal choice and an addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking, and there are many opposing views on banning smoking in public places. There are many yeses and many nos to ban it. Many people, especially nonsmokers, argue that banning smoking in public places will keep nonsmokers, including waiters/waitresses and bartenders, healthy. Others argue that by banning smoking in public places the government is imposing their freedom. A counterargument is that by smoking in public places, smokers put the lives of those around them at risk. There are many different arguments against smoking bans, and the debate will likely never end. People who are against bans on smoking in public areas are against it for many reasons, just as we all are. People think that banning smoking is not an option, because they can move around freely and do what they want with their bodies and health. A public place is called a public place for a reason, so that people can roam freely. People should have the right to breathe clean air and should also have the right to their own lifestyle choices. People say they have the right to make whatever choice they want
