The average person's brain doesn't mature enough until their 20s. The adolescent brain stage of development causes adolescents to experience what many would call an invincibility complex. This further explains why teenagers are more likely to take risks and also explains why death and crime rates are high among teenagers compared to other age groups (The Teen Brain).
