Topic > How Entertainment Ruined Society - 745

In every sense, "ruined" is a relative term. On his third birthday, my cousin Collin received a bright red toy fire truck, which promptly broke down after just an hour of play, prompting myriad tears from the little boy. In my eyes, a broken wheel on a toy wasn't the end of the world, after all Collin could still push it around with only three wheels. For me the toy was still in decent working order so I didn't consider it ruined. However, for Collin, who couldn't see past the fact that at that very moment his fire truck had fewer wheels than was acceptable, his truck was unusable; it was ruined. Likewise, the definition of ruined varies from person to person, as the term refers to the condition of society. While society still functions, it functions in the most superficial sense of the word. At its core, society is miserably ruined. To quote Shakespeare, society is "rotten as ever oak or stone was solid," and entertainment is mostly to blame. of the generations that preceded him. Instead of the low-contact, save-space-for-Jesus kind of dancing that our parents did at their proms, teenagers move their bodies in the manner of the infamous "twerk," and bump and screech, a skimpy outfit far from the 'be a full-fledged relationship on the dance floor. When I had the chance to witness one of these dances-turned-orgies, the only thing I could think was, “what makes them think this is okay?” If it was just instinct, I certainly hadn't, and if their parents taught them that, then society is worse off than I thought. However, none of these are the reasons behind... middle of paper... For the hordes who think that Miley Cyrus' performance at the Video Music Awards was simply a harmless self-expression, or that the Fifty Shades book of gray is nothing more than a guilty pleasure for its middle-aged female fandom, society is not ruined. For them, these morally depreciating things are just a broken wheel of society; they don't try to free themselves from society because they feel they can still function with the remaining wheels. In fact, people don't realize how much entertainment has pushed us towards ruin because it's been so long since morality has been the norm. Most continue their lives as if society were still fully intact, as if they were still in control of it, while those who recognize that society cannot function properly on three wheels seek to reverse the damage. My question is, “What will we do when all the wheels fall off??"
