In view of these concerns, modern Indian agriculture has given rise to new concepts of organic, natural and eco-friendly farming, etc. The essential concept and philosophy of these practices is to nourish the soil rather than the crops to maintain its health and save the environment, that is, giving back to nature what has been taken away from it (Funtilana, 1990). Therefore, for sustained productivity along with socio-ecological and economic balance, adoption of alternative agricultural system such as Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) is necessary. INM involving the combination of organic manure and fertilizers is an essential tool for balanced fertilization and long-term sustainability of agricultural production (Hegde and Dwivedi, 1993). Applying organic manures along with fertilizers improves the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil as well as improving fertilizer use efficiency and crop yields.
