We Must Teach Homosexuals About Christ All sins are forgivable and we are all sinners, but sin must be recognized for what it is if divine mercy is to be obtained. Much of the talk about homosexuality is an understandable human effort to change the subject. Any reference to the wrongness of homosexuality risks inviting the accusation of homophobia, directing the accusation at the alleged accuser. But obviously the moral law is no one's property, and invoking it should not constitute an accusation. The problem is not how others react to homosexuality but the plight of the homosexual. And the topic of this article is to meet the homosexual in his difficult situation. Without a doubt, deviant sex is almost as old as race. There are few innovations in moral weakness. What is new is the homosexual ideology that has made devastating inroads into the Church from the environmental culture. We are made to believe that remembering the Church's teaching is an uncharitable act and that the Christian thing to do is to act as if sodomy were as normal as marital sex. Of course, it is hardly a defense of homosexuality to point out that many people commit sexual sins. The tu quoque here is singularly inappropriate. We started from the observation that we are all sinners. The question is: what happens next? We sinners are inclined to exonerate ourselves and remove the burden of responsibility and guilt. The adulterer is led to think that, although adultery is generally wrong, in this case there are factors that justify it, perhaps even make it a meritorious act. It is this all-too-common trend that has elevated homosexuality to an ideology and turned it into a political issue. There are no "communities" of adulterers dedicated to changing public perception of what they do. Bank robbers did not band together to abolish laws against after-hours withdrawals. Fornicators' rights have not become a political cause. Only homosexuals demand that society revoke the ancient recognition that sexual license, whether adultery or sodomy, is not only harmful to the participants but also an attack on the common good. This is self-deception turned into a group effort. Individual acts of unnatural sex are one thing, and that's bad enough, but homosexual ideology threatens the very foundations of human society.
