Topic > My Struggles in Becoming a Writer - 788

Until recently I hadn't decided who I was let alone what I wanted to do with my life, so over the summer when I started writing, I wasn't expecting much more to have an outlet and a way to pass the time until I made new friends in the area. What I didn't expect was what happened when I put the pen down, this bittersweet, bittersweet desire to pick up the pen again and put it back on paper. It's that feeling that made me enroll in Creative Writing this year, I didn't want to spend a day without writing, fearing that the fire would swallow me up completely, but at the same time feeling empty without it. I felt like I had always been good at descriptions, even when I was in middle school teachers told me they appreciated my essays, and I was proud of that. But when I moved to Mississippi, things took an unfortunate turn. The atmosphere was toxic and had an overall feeling of "who cares". If there's one thing that place taught me, it's that no one does it unless you do it, so you have to worry. Your family and friends may be there to support you, but you have to be your own advocate because it makes no difference if you are not self-disciplined and motivated. It's one of the many things that attracted me to Evergreen in the first place. This would be my program. I will decide where to go because I am building my degree. I won't be just a number taking the same classes as everyone else to get the same cookie-cutter diploma. I am an individual with my own thoughts and interests and Evergreen recognizes this. In my opinion, this is just part of what makes Evergreen so unique compared to every other school, and why I can't see myself going anywhere else. When it all boils down to what I want to do with my life, the answer is simple. I want to be a wr... middle of paper... I've been here for us every step of the way. The cast is truly amazing in that we feed off each other's creative energy. I'm proud of this show and my team. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on this production, both on and off stage. When I enrolled at my current school, we were placed in counseling classes. I ran against many other students for a seat in the student senate. I won and actually represented them as a conduit between the student body president and the student body; write down ideas and concerns and express them in meetings. I would like to leverage my experience as a senator and take on a leadership role at the college. My goal during my four years at The Evergreen State is to take the plethora of innovative and creative energy that seems to engulf your campus and apply it to my life and future career.
