Africa is the second largest continent in the world after Asia. Although Africa is known for having many species of animals, it is also known for eight major physical regions according to Margery G: “The Sahara, Swahill Coast, Rainforest, African Great Lakes, and Southern Africa” (7 ). Probably one of the best known desserts in the world is found in Africa which is the Sahara. The Sahara is the third largest desert in the world and is also the hottest desert. So everyone has an idea of how big the Sahara is, if compared to another country, the Sahara will be bigger than Brazil, South America. Much of Africa's physical environment is savannas; it covers about half of Africa. A known savannah region is the Serengeti, which is home to the largest species of mammals, including elephants, lions, zebras etc. Over the years, African rainforests have been destroyed by human civilization and “as a result only 80% of Africa's rainforest is concentrated in central Africa, along the Congo River,” Margery G (132). Furthermore, the African Great Lakes, which are home to crocodiles and hippos, have a large impact on Africa's physical environment. Lakes such as Lake Albert and Lake Edward; they have an extreme range of marine and terrestrial animal life. Millions of tourists visit Africa every year for its beautiful physical environment and wonderful wildlife. Beyond Africa's physical environment, there is a sense of need to protect this beautiful continent for all the amazing things it brings to our planet.
