This shows that they have a very good reason to be here on earth, not only do they provide for other vegetarian animals in the forest, but they also provide for humans. Giant panda bears are 99% vegetarian; this is because in addition to bamboo they only feed on small rodents and birds. They follow a diet called omnivorous. They are also carnivores and are part of the Ursid family. Their scientific name is "Ailuropoda Melanoleuca", ailuropoda means "cat-footed" and melanoleuca means "the large black and white type". For a long time, scientists were unsure whether giant pandas were bears. This is because pandas grasp bamboo stalks with their five fingers and a special wrist bone. They use their teeth to peel away the tough outer layers of the bamboo stem to reveal the soft inner tissue. They also eat leaves. The mother panda takes great care of her little cub, usually cradling it with one paw and holding it close to her chest.
