This module aims to develop a critical assessment and understanding of contemporary wellbeing issues relating to and influencing health and social care. It will first begin by discussing the concept of well-being, along with the effects of the welfare state on well-being. It will also contain a brief description of the policies and how they are established. It will then look at a particular issue and the effects of those issues in the health and social care context. In addition to this, it will discuss policies/legislation relating to the issue and critically evaluate its effects in health and social care departments. Finally, it will critically analyze the impact of current contemporary issues in health, well-being and social care followed by a conclusion of the entire essay. Wellbeing is a term used to describe the physical, psychological and social condition of an individual. A person's physical well-being is related to daily functional activities such as eating, dressing, washing and moving. Psychological well-being concerns an individual's cognitive functions, such as the ability to cope with fear, anxiety, stress and depression. Social well-being concerns a person's ability to be part of a society and interact with different people, as well as fulfill roles as a family member, friend and colleague. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “the complete state of physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of infirmity” (WHO 1948). This explains how an individual's well-being does not only depend on the absence of diseases but also takes into account the other aspects of life that influence the quality of life. Quality of life is definitely... middle of the paper... it can only be controlled by the pregnant woman as is her body. Policies and legislation should not stop a woman from deciding what she wants to do with her body; instead they should give her complete freedom to decide what she can do with her body. Since there are many reasons why a woman wants an abortion, which should be up to her alone, health professions should not have the right to decide for them. Since having an abortion can affect a person's well-being, not having an abortion can also have the same effect on someone. Therefore, if the government wants the welfare and well-being of its people, abortion should be a matter for the pregnant woman alone, even if it will have negative or even positive effects on a woman. The welfare and well-being of the public depends solely on the issues addressed by the government.
