The dignity of the African people conveyed by Things Fall ApartIn Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, it is shown that the African people had their own complex culture before the Europeans decided to "pacify them". The idea that the dignity of these people has been greatly compromised is recognized in the essay "The Role of the Writer", which is explanatory of Achebe's novels. A writer trying to capture the truth of a situation that his readers may know little or nothing about needs a sense of history to appropriately address the topic. It's not enough to "beat" another writer on the topic. Writers should attempt to express a deeper understanding. Without adequate mental investment in a written work, the product will be a superficial representation of what it intends to convey. Achebe chose to write his novel in a realistic manner. It includes the beauty of Ibo culture, as well as the gruesome. He recorded that a man might help kill his own adopted son out of fear that he would be "considered weak". He also revealed that the newborn twins were thrown away. Along with “great depth” comes tragedy, but all the details were necessary to accurately present the topic. The writer must understand that the truth is not selective with respect to pleasant facts. The district commissioner felt it was important to "be firm in cutting the details" and decreed that one paragraph would suffice for Okonkwo's explanation. However, Achebe, in essence, wrote an entire novel about this character. It is arrogant to believe that complete understanding of a human being can be achieved so easily. The character of the district commissioner is a great example of a man who is partial... middle of paper... dear without consideration. to the public's attention for written news. Care and time must be given to allow every necessary aspect of a literary work to be developed. Writing for convenience often excludes “value and beauty” in the culture of Africans. Fallacious arguments and insincere statements result from rushing a document. Writers have the opportunity to "tell the people" about the harsh realities of the past. Anyone who writes about the colonial period has a choice to simply write something or write something substantial. A writer's goal should be to influence the world for the better. With an adequate attitude towards the subject, knowledge of history and care in preparation, it will be possible to regain the dignity and self-respect lost by the African people, and many will be able to know "where the rain began to beat them”.."
