One of the greatest historical figures of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., said that “the ultimate measure of 'man is not where he is in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he is in moments of challenge and controversy' ('Man'). The true interiority of man, in fact, is revealed through the determination he demonstrates when going through a difficult situation. This truth can also be applied to literature. In fact, he was specifically referring to Vikas Swarup's novel Q and A. The story is about a poor young man growing up in the slums, who must use all his skills to win the first prize in a game show. He shows his true nature as a man in flashbacks to his early life, after every question he is asked. The nature the man possesses is what helps him succeed, not only in the quiz, but also in his difficult and troubled personal life. Thus the story describes the true saving grace of human nature. In the novel Questions and Answers, Vikas Swarup demonstrates how in a society where man is constantly tested physically and mentally, man's redeeming qualities can help him achieve a better life. First, Swarup reveals that the man is determined to work hard to achieve a better life. For example, Ram is capable of doing difficult and risky work for long hours. Ram says: “I work all day in the foundry, returning only at six in the evening. And melting metal is hard work. The molten iron suffocates you with its heat and your eyes are often blinded by the bright orange flames” (Swarup 45). It is clear that Ram works hard because he has a difficult and risky job that requires a lot of hard work. Prove you have what it takes to work in such a dangerous environment f...... half of paper......inaction. They do it to earn an income. Furthermore, man is able to learn from his life to help him succeed. Ram's ability to access the deepest memories in his mind helps him get first prize in a game show. Furthermore, man's ability to achieve a better life can be achieved by remaining positive. With a positive mindset, Ramakrishna can ignore all the bad things happening in the world around him. Ram also uses a positive attitude to realize that he is lucky to have a job, even if it is not the best job. Ultimately, man is truly tested when he finds himself in a position of challenge and controversy, and not where he feels most comfortable. The position in which man finds himself in questions and answers during challenges and controversies is always persistent. If man did not try to improve his life, he would continue to live the miserable life he has always lived.
