Thesis Statement "Beat My Heart, God in Three Persons" conveys a very powerful message to its readers. It helps us understand his need for God, while also expressing humility and reverence knowing that God holds all truths and has all the power to lead him to a life of freedom.Outline1. Awareness2. Reverence3. HumilityIn the poem “Batter My Heart, Three-personed God” by John Donne a request for repentance is made by a humble man to his Creator. Donne has fallen into the clutches of Satan and is in desperate need of God's mercy, however the poem does not appear to be a plea for that mercy, it is more along the lines of a violent cry for the Holy Spirit to take over. . This poem is about a young man who struggles against sin and seeks salvation by any means possible; he is even willing to take desperate measures to achieve salvation. Donne is in a constant struggle between good and evil. In the poem Donne asks God to enter his heart and free him from all the evil that has overwhelmed him. Throughout the poem, bold imagery is used to explain the constant struggle the writer is experiencing at that given moment. The speaker in the poem believes he is weak in his faith and wants to be conquered by God and not by Satan. my heart, triune God; for you” (John Donne) “For now just knock; breathe, shine and seek to repair;” (John Donne)"That I may arise, and stand, and topple, and to bend" (John Donne)"Your strength, to break me, to blow, to burn, and to make me new." (John Donne)During the first four lines of the poem the speaker feels that God has been very generous to him, he feels that God is almost too friendly and that he has been too thoughtful. Donne believes that in order... in the center of the card... a very interesting debate, because the chosen words used to captivate and enrapture can also signify a powerful feeling of amazement and joy. However, we know that God is mighty and mighty and can even be violent when necessary. An example of violence would be the flood of Noah's time. I find this poem to be exceptional in its meaning, in fact the following verse to keep in mind when thinking about this poem is Psalm 51:17 “the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou shalt not despise.” (Holy Bible, New Testament) I believe the speaker has meaning behind his words knows that complete peace and joy comes from awareness of one's sin, he also believes in self-submission to God and humility of heart.ReferenceJohn Donne ; Beat my heart, triune God.
