Baptism: The First Influential Sacrament Baptism is one of the first rites of passage a person may face. It usually happens during the first two months after a baby is born. Baptism is a sacrament that cleanses and removes original sin and personal guilt, which leads a person to Christianity. It comes from the Greek word “baptizein” which means to wash or immerse. During the Baptism ceremony, the person will become a believer in Christ and accept the grace of the Holy Spirit. Baptism is not only the beginning of growth, but is its symbol. Baptism is widely practiced because of its fundamentality to the individual and supporters. It is only one of the seven sacraments that Christ inflicted on the church.
