This essay will identify the five approaches to health promotion. For the sake of this essay I will focus on two approaches. These approaches will be defined and shown how they could be used to address a behavioral lifestyle using Beattie's model. The Beattie model is one of several models that health promoters use as a guide to direct the mode of intervention and strategy suited to any particular problem. This model will be used to identify the location of each of the two approaches, highlighting the role of the health promoter in each approach, as well as to discuss the policy and ethical issues associated with each approach. Furthermore the essay will cover the values of each approach underlining the need for health promoters to consider the effectiveness of a model to ensure suitability for any problem presented. Furthermore the essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach as this can be an indicator approach if this approach is applied, whether it can address inequality and improve the health and well-being of that individual or society. The essay will use Dahlgren and Whitehead's social determinants of health needs to exemplify the determinants of health by showing how these determinants can influence how health is viewed as holistic or simply the absence of disease. Finally, the essay will analyze evaluation with these approaches as well as the importance of evaluation for current and future programs. Health promotion is a multifaceted movement with a core value of respect, empowerment, equity, inclusion, and social justice (MacDougall 2002). . It aims to achieve holistic health, while influenced by medical and social determinants. These determining factors that help to discourage... middle of paper... as a healthcare professional are when an intervention can continue and be successful even without me being there to give control and autonomy to the individual or community allowing them to lead a intervention while adhering to the latest laws and government policies. In conclusion, this essay has identified and discussed two approaches in health promotion. It also applied these approaches to a lifestyle problem by analyzing the position taken by the health promoter in each approach as well as the contribution that individuals and communities make, placing emphasis on how much the strategies adopted address inequality. The community approach highlighted the importance of collaboration and participation in capacity building in the community, while discussing the need to conduct evaluations in both approaches. Finally, policies related to the identified lifestyle problem were discussed.
