Imagine yourself in ten years. From now until then, you will have short-term and long-term goals that will be met or ignored. Achieving success occurs by achieving goals with the happiness that comes with it. Goal achievement is a continuous process throughout human beings' lives until there is nothing left to gain. However, society makes people believe that success is measured by money and monetary elements. Of course, it is important to have money to consistently pay bills and support your family. Without money people will starve and become homeless (Discussion 1). The disadvantages of not having money lead to a lack of necessary goods. Money is what allows people to have shelter, food and clothing which are basic needs. In the eyes of the people, being naked, homeless and hungry is a rather unsuccessful act (Discussion 1). People who become homeless or unsuccessful are shunned or sympathized with by other people. There are people in society who use their success to help others who need it, for example by helping a homeless person by offering money or shelter. Success is not defined by the clothes people wear or the size of your house. The United States is known for the materialistic obsession of its citizens (Seger 1). We get satisfaction from the objects we own and often enjoy our envious neighbors. Money is a symbolism for defining people's success (Seger 1). The amount of money a person has determines the different items he can acquire. The bigger the diamond ring, the more successful you will be. However this is not the true definition of success.
