Quotes are one of my favorite forms of artistic expression. Every culture has its own collection of quotes, wise sayings and proverbs. They offer paraphrased advice about life and also provide some basic ideas, principles and values of a particular society. The mechanism of a quotation involves the insertion of two meanings of the phrase in its original use and in a new context. Quotes are often used for comical or ironic effect. They often become a form of free speech. During the period of censorship the author uses figurative language to express social or political beliefs, covert mockery, and occasionally express criticism. Sometimes they inspire me and make me deliberate. A quote from C.S. Lewis made me question my honesty and morals in aspects of everyday life. A few weeks ago my boyfriend celebrated his 34th birthday. We went to a very elegant waterfront restaurant "The Water Club" located on the East River. The restaurant is located on a boat, which makes the place very romantic and intimate. We took the table next to the huge window with a beautiful panoramic view of the river. The dining room was open with high ceiling. The lighting was dim and pleasant. Maritime decorations and wooden furniture have been set up to make everyone feel comfortable with space and privacy. We both ordered the Captain's special cocktail. The drinks were slightly sweet but very refreshing with a sweet flavor supported by hints of bitter lemon; we followed it with crispy shrimp in spicy Thai sauce as a starter and fresh Maine lobster as a main course. The whole experience was a unique and refined pleasure and we expected a hefty bill. When we received our check, I immediately noticed that it wasn't ours. The total of eighty dollars would be... half the paper... and would show the cracks in our character. The best thing is to never take the first dishonest step. No matter how small and imperceptible the choice may seem at the time, it could begin a path that will damage your moral compass, leading you to commit more serious misdeeds. Building a reputation for integrity takes years, but it only takes a second to lose it. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times and in every situation, regardless of whether anyone is watching or not. It takes courage to do the right thing, whatever the consequences. Being true to yourself, your morals, your beliefs and your values is religiously significant. Integrity is how you decide to live, act and behave even when no one is around to see you. In your life you will face decisions that only you can make. Only you can decide how to live your life, and the decisions you make define you.
