Home field advantage should be earned by the team with the best overall record. It's not right to rely on one game during the season because it affects something so important. In baseball, players continually go on hot and cold streaks. Sometimes pitchers have bad games and give up a lot of runs. The All Star Game should be a time for everyone to have fun. Whether a player strikes out 3 times or hits 3 home runs, he still deserves to be there. Players should not take the field knowing that if they do not perform well, they will jeopardize their chances of gaining home field advantage in the World Series. Another problem with making the All Star Game so important is that coaches don't play to win. Coaches are constantly making substitutions because the goal of every player on the roster is to get into the game. Also, in MLB, it is a rule that there is at least one player from each team on the roster. The argument with this rule is that some teams may not have a player who deserves to be on the All Star team. If a game really means that much, coaches should be able to pick it
