Creating a Personal Theology of Leadership In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon explained that there is nothing new under the sun, so it should surprise no one that many times what seems being new was conceived previously. As the body of knowledge in a particular discipline expands, that expansion sometimes collides with something previously revealed. Great men and women of the past have provided a very rich source of material for the development of the theology of leadership. These individuals applied divine principles to form profound yet practical theologies, sometimes even during the darkest periods of human history. Two of these individuals were Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Mother Teresa, whose theologies of leadership did much to shape the concept of God-centered leadership. Both examples provided an environment that required effective faith and practical theology. Theological reflection, according to Bonhoeffer, must be much more than an academic exercise and should have a direct impact on the Church (Vanden Berg, 2009).
