As time passes, society acquires a multitude of themes that contain relevant issues of the time. The 1980s contained many themes prevalent in its media; these themes are addressed in a variety of films, including John Hughes' Some Kind of Wonderful. John Hughes' films in the 1980s continually contained a major theme of the period. Some Kind of Wonderful shows a myriad of them, but the main three were about class struggles/class differences, an emphasis on fun, and a lack of respect for authority. Over the years the idea of class struggle was constantly alluded to, along with the idea of the rich getting richer while others got richer. the poor became even poorer. It's an ongoing theme throughout the film that is introduced early on and is never really resolved. The film begins with a poor boy who wants to win over a rich man's girlfriend, and immediately the viewer is introduced to their class differences.
