I wouldn't say that categories are always negative, because they help us understand the world, but they can become dangerous when they produce stereotypes and prejudices. The good thing about Erasure is that not only are American society's views towards African Americans discussed, but also how African Americans see themselves and how they add to common stereotypes. This book will appeal to everyone who is interested in how racism and prejudices are produced and how they are maintained, because this novel offers the reader some very interesting perspectives on the topic.
