All abduction scenarios are not created equal, however, the experiences of those who claim to have been abducted by aliens are somewhat similar to each other. Each case has enough commonalities to form a general idea of what happens when you are kidnapped. These accounts usually begin with the presence of a bright light and strange beings (Newman and Baumeister). At this point the abductee usually remains paralyzed and is forcibly taken to the alien spacecraft (Newman and Baumeister). Most say that all kinds of tests were performed on them while they were aboard the ship (Newman and Baumeister). Most abductees explain that somehow the aliens managed to erase their memory of exactly what happened when they were on the spaceship (Orne). According to Jacobs, people began reporting alien abductions in the early 1900s. In Florida, a boy scout leader, Sonny Desvergers, claimed to have seen a ball of light coming from a flying saucer and then lost consciousness (Jacobs ). He woke up 45 minutes later in a different place than where he had been before (Jacobs). At the time his case was deemed a hoax (Jacobs). The only thing investigators couldn't figure out was how Desvergers managed to burn the roots of the grass where he was "kidnapped," but not the top of the grass (Jacobs). The Barney and Betty Hill kidnapping case is eminent (Jacobs). They claimed that aliens had abducted them from their car in a UFO and taken samples of their skin, hair and nails (Barbeito). When they came back, they couldn't really remember what happened to them (Jacobs). There were 2 hours left because they were on a long journey home (Barbeito). They went to a psychiatrist and a hypnotist who helped the couple recover their memories... in the middle of a sheet of paper... they talk about a war between the human race and aliens (called "assholes"). There are also tons of movies about alien life. An example film is The Day the Earth Stood Still (Andersen). Researchers have found a few different theories that may explain some aspects of people who claim to have experienced alien abductions, but they have not been able to explain every case of abduction (Pelletier and Patry). Until now there was no theory capable of perfectly decoding the mystery of alien abductions (Pelletier and Patry). All theories as to why “abductees” claim to have been abducted by aliens are possible, however they require further research and examination. The concept of extraterrestrials has influenced many aspects of society. Relying on what “abductees” say as true evidence is an important decision that can change the universe as we know it.
