Music has been used for many different things throughout history. Music is said to influence a person's brain and, in doing so, has an effect on a person's overall behavior or activity. Many North American Indian tribes used percussion instruments (drums) to contact the spirits of their ancestors. During the Renaissance period, “classical” music was played during many royal parties to maintain a cheerful atmosphere in the ballroom. In the next paragraphs we will see how today's society blames metal music for many behavioral disorders among young people. Musical preferences are as diverse as the people who listen to them. Different types of music have different reputations; Heavy metal music is often labeled as "bad", but others find it to be a harmless form of music. I am convinced that music can have some kind of effect on the listener, but nothing serious and nothing harmful. A person's behavior is purely their own, whether it is caused by their parents telling them no or a boy they hate at school talking to them; However, this is not the fault of the musicians at all. Like other types of music, such as jazz, blues, and even rap, the distinct style of heavy metal music can be grouped into three main sections. A popular style of heavy metal is death metal. Death metal has a darker sound and more surreal style than other forms of heavy metal. The music itself is fast, heavy and loud, usually with a classical feel. The images that death metal portrays are death, ruin, destruction, suicide, sex and drugs. Some people may see these images as harmful or having a negative effect on the listener. Another form of heavy metal music is speed metal. Speed metal has a happier sound than death metal and is not as "depressing". It has a fast pace and a strong impact, the lead guitar follows a seemingly impossible rhythm. This is in contrast to death metal, which emphasizes rhythm guitar. The last type of metal music is thrash metal. The name refers to both the pounding sound of the music and the agitated movement of its listeners. The sound is extremely loud and has the same tone and style as speed metal. These styles, however, attract certain “types” of people. Most people who ... middle of paper ... their behavior is caused by the music they listen to. Could we not point the finger at today's rap industry? At least in the world of metal music, most of the things they claim are fantasies and are rarely seen as realistic. In rap, children hear clear rumors about rape, drug use, and prostitution, among other “immoral” things. Shouldn't we take a look at today's most popular musical influences instead of attacking men "outside the norm"? I might also point out that while I linked metal music to depression, I didn't directly link any of it. However, I said that a certain person was attracted to a certain type of music. Could it be the depressed person, and their inner emotions that cause whatever makes them act that way, but not the music itself? Additionally, music could be seen as an outlet for today's angry, energetic teenager. Without this outlet for total stress and anguish, perhaps the suicide rate would increase or the number of school shootings increase? Teenagers will continue to listen to the music their parents hate, nothing will change the situation; this can be considered a positive thing from my point of view.
