Imagine coming home from school every day and crying for countless hours just because of the hurtful actions and words of one of your peers. This is what a bullied teenager experiences. In the United States, one in four students is a victim of bullying or has already been a victim of bullying. Many teenagers are affected by bullying and we as a community need to help these teenagers and stop this problem. Bullying is when one person, the bully, gets tired of embarrassing, harming, and/or threatening another person, the victim. The bully never stops, it just gets worse. The bully is usually stronger and more popular. The bully usually bullies someone he doesn't like or someone he thinks is strange, but he can also bully people who have a disability of some kind. The bully persecutes different people. There are three main types of bullying. The three types of bullying are verbal bullying, physical bullying and social bullying. Verbal bullying occurs when the bully verbally hurts the other person. They call victims names and make them feel worse about themselves by using words. Physical bullying occurs when the bully physically harms the victim, such as by kicking or punching. Finally, social bullying occurs when the bully hurts the victim by excluding them from others. Now there is also cyberbullying. Cyberbullying occurs when someone bullies you over the Internet or on any electronic device. The bully usually bullies because they have problems in their personal life, be it family or financial problems, and bullying is their way of venting their anger. Sometimes, he himself is bossy and depressed, which causes them to bully because it helps them feel better about themselves. Although, just because they have problems, this doesn't... middle of paper... people who are bigger and more popular than them. Bullying creates an unsafe environment and an environment that students fear. We fail to stop bullying, we give the bully permission to hurt others, and we don't care enough about the victims who get hurt. To prevent teenagers from being bullied we can help ensure self-confidence in a child. We can help them have better social skills, help them talk to themselves. Make sure they have friends and family they talk to constantly, make sure they are never alone and make sure if they are being bullied they ask for help. To prevent someone from becoming a bully we can demonstrate non-violent behavior and affirm that violence is not predictable. Ask counselors for help in stopping aggressive behavior and stopping bullying. There are so many things we can do to prevent bullying, we need to step up and do something.
