The relationship between parents and children is a popular topic in every generation. Parents can shape their children according to their own values, but children's behaviors can also influence parents. In “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and “A Father's Story” by Andre Dubus, the two authors demonstrate two widespread phenomena among parents and children. John, the character in “The Yellow Wallpaper,” mistreats the depressive narrator as a child. Luke Ripley, a father in "A Father's Story", covers up a car accident for his daughter. Both of these stories show how parents deal with their children's problems and how they deal with them. Their behaviors and choices are influenced by how they solve their children's problems.
