Assessed Component 2IntroductionIn this assignment I will explain the definition of responsive web design, process of gradual/gradual degradation and progressive improvement when applied to responsive web design. I will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using a gradual degradation process versus the progressive improvement process when designing a website. Main body • Responsive web designResponsive web design is a layout and styling technique that adapts layout and display capabilities to all devices, from mobile phones to large desktop monitors. For example, a responsive website may display a mobile-style top menu with a single-column design when viewed with a smartphone device, but global navigation tabs or buttons, and a 2-column design when viewed with a tablet and a 3 columns when viewed on a laptop or desktop monitor. All three electronic devices can see the same content; the server "responds" to the device with a design optimized for display on that specific device. Responsive designs are gradually becoming common due to the dramatic increase in people using tablets and mobile phones to view websites and do research. There are numerous ways to achieve responsive web design. One way is to animately find the user's platform such as an iPad, iPod or iPhone and load the exact HTML and CSS for the corresponding device. Another way is to use media queries, which repeatedly load special CSS styles that vary based on the size of the browser window. A responsive website always has three main components; they are flexible layouts, media queries and flexible media.
