After running away once when she was seven and having to go back, she knew she couldn't stop there. Harriet repeatedly tried to escape and when something didn't work and she was sent back to her harsh life as a slave, there was no way she was going to stop there. Harriet would try and try to plan ways to escape until one night she failed. Even when she was a little girl toiling on the plantation, or at home as a maid, she never stopped doing what she was doing. If she had given up just one thing on the Underground Railroad, Harriet would never have freed the thousands she did. If Harriet had given up even one thing, she would never have succeeded in becoming a free black woman. In every single thing Harriet Tubman never gave up on. Surrendering did not mean freedom, a happy life, a better America. Not only did she refuse to give up, but she was able to face everything and work hard. Tom Allen says in his book Harriet Tubman, Secret Agent that “She was five feet two inches tall, born into slavery, had a debilitating disease, and still couldn't read or write. Yet she was a strong, tenacious woman who could take charge and lead men. This shows how Harriet was a strong woman and shows that she never gave up. Just imagine if Harriet Tubman wasn't as strong as she really is, or couldn't get through everything, or maybe just gave up on one thing. A
