Next episode Want to play a game? The infamous words muttered by the computer WOPPER in the movie War Games. In this movie an amateur hacker looking for some cool games almost starts a nuclear war with some simple maneuvers. Although it was just a movie, it highlighted how easily one person could start an all-out nuclear war. This movie was made in the 1980s, when we didn't rely on the power of computers to control a system and yet we were on the verge of facing all-out nuclear war. We now realize that computers make us twice as vulnerable. With this in mind I feel it is my responsibility to assert the resolve that possessing nuclear weapons is immoral. For clarification on this topic I offer the following definitions Black's Law, 5th edition. Possession: the possession and control of anything that can be owned, for use and enjoyment. Nuclear: anything with radioactive materials. Weapons Something used to destroy someone or something. From the Lexicon-Webster dictionary Immoral: not conforming to accepted standards of what is considered right and wrong behavior in a cultureNuclear weapons are a strange weapon, they are one of the few weapons that can kill long after the initial explosion. The radiation emitted from this explosion would infect all surrounding nations thus causing a global catastrophe. This is why I would like to adopt the value of Global Security. Along with this value I will use the Safty criterion because Safty is the only way to achieve overall safety. Contention one: the NUCs don't just aim for death. The sole purpose of nuclear weapons is to kill large numbers of people very quickly without threat of losing men. Let me repeat: kill without being killed. This sounds like a great strategy, except it's not a strategy at all. If you have a thousand nuclear weapons you will not target them in military bases, no, you will inflict the greatest damage and that is on the civilian population. People innocent of any crime put to death by a faceless weapon. Subclause A: Nuclear war is inevitable. The only reason to create a new weapon is to use it and not sit there collecting dust. History has shown that the moment a new weapon is invented, people line up to use it and demonstrate its effectiveness. The bombs we dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just a weapon, now we have unused missiles and unused bombers wasting money.
