This post started because my friend Jesse Phillips tweeted an intriguing thought, he said, “Sorry, tithing to support a building and paid staff is simply not biblically otherwise Paul, Peter and Jesus would have been away."I have to say Jesse is 100% right. This speaks to a larger issue regarding the separation of the law and what Jesus brought when he came to earth. In my studies of tithing, I wanted to prove that it was biblical because so many churches taught that you should give 10% every week, without fail. The topic becomes obtuse when people start wondering whether you should give 10% before or after taxes. During a church service, the question came up about what would happen if you couldn't pay your tithe; the pastor explained that he would actually keep a log of the times missed and would try to repay him in full.
