PICOT is a series of questions used to evaluate and formulate a plan of care for a patient. There are many assessments used to create a personalized care plan for a patient. “PICOT” is an evidence-based practice that has been proven effective. “P” stands for Population/Patient Problem, “I” refers to the intervention or variable of interest, “C” is used for comparison, “O” is outcome, and “T” stands for Time (Koshar, 2013, figure 1). I currently work at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, my area of ​​care is behavioral health. During the shift, I use evidence-based practice daily, although I have never attempted to use the PICOT model. The patient population I would like to see change the most is chemically dependent individuals. I look forward to researching, discussing, and implementing PICOT into my nursing practice to improve patient care and avoid recurring relapses. PICOT stands for a step-by-step process that is used by nurses as a framework and guide to develop clinical questions that improve the patient's individualized treatment plan. If PICOT is used correctly by a nurse, he or she will find that it is a simple and effective way to provide appropriate care to a patient seeking improved health or well-being. According to an article titled Guide to Nursing Research (2014), “PICOT helps the clinician find the information needed to answer questions and reduce uncertainty” (Young, Table 5). The framework for PICOT provides questions in the sequential order of the acronym. P – is used to identify the patient/population of interest and the problem the individual is currently facing. I – is the intervention used to recognize what will be done for this patient to resolve the immediate... center of the card ...... related to the chemical dependency aspect. I recognized that the main focus of this type of patient is not only medical care, but also the psychosocial aspect of the patient who is in acute crisis. If this type of patient receives medical and emotional therapeutic care, the goal is more achievable. I will be bringing PICOT into my nursing practice and find the questioning model to be a good guide. Every day I'm on shift I'm assigned five to six patients for primary care. I can use PICOT during my hospitalizations, as I am responsible for formulating a sound care plan for the hospitalized patient. As with other patients who have already completed their initial hospitalization, a treatment plan is in place. Whereas each shift must evaluate whether the plan of care can improve, changes are encouraged under the assumption that the change will improve the patient's health while on the unit.
