This is a quote from the famous American basketball player William Warren Bradley. With this quote in mind, consider this question; Should high school athletes pass mandatory drug tests to play sports? I think the answer is yes. I believe that sport is a privilege, not a right. By choosing to be a part of an athletic program you sign up to be a role model for the students around you. Reflect not only yourself, but also your school, your community, and on a level, your parents and family. There are many reasons why I believe all high school athletes should be drug tested in order to play. One of those reasons is this: drugs are illegal, plain and simple. By abusing drugs you are breaking the law and your school's code of conduct. High school is kind of the gateway to adult life, and in the adult world you get drug tested. It makes sense to drug test student athletes because the day you signed up for a sport you committed to following the rules, on and off the field. Schools have anti-drug policies in place, but the system has no follow-up. You tell a teenager not to do drugs and he will listen to you, but ultimately telling him to "just say no" won't actually stop him from going out and doing drugs. Since elementary school, when the police brought drug-sniffing dogs to school, we are reminded that drugs are bad, that they are wrong and illegal. But nothing is actually done to stop teenagers from choosing to take drugs, there are no real consequences because most of the time they won't get caught. Making drug testing a mandatory and regular thing for student athletes will serve as a deterrent and send the message... middle of the paper... the school will know who needs help and treatment. The school can intervene early and get that athlete back on the path to a better future not one of darkness, disease and drugs. The fourth reason I believe high school athletes should be drug tested is that allowing teams to have players on the team who do drugs sends the message to the rest of the students that drugs are okay. And even excluding athletes from the team who have drug problems allows other students who don't abuse drugs and play by the rules to have a chance to play without the threat of losing time to someone who wouldn't. he would have been allowed to be on the team if drug tests had been carried out. These are four very important reasons why I believe all high school student athletes should have to pass a mandatory drug test in order to play a sport for school.
