John Moses Browning, often called the "Father of Modern Firearms," was born in Ogden, Utah, on January 23, 1855. Young John Browning was suited for his next chosen field as a firearms manufacturer as his father Johnathan had been a gunsmith for many years with many original firearms designs of his own. This afforded John Browning the opportunity to be exposed to the gunsmith's art early, and his ingenuity and God-given skills were quickly compounded by the invention of the metallic cartridge. The initial effort was to improve upon the rugged firearms of the time that were used for hunting the big game that was so plentiful at the time and an important part of life. John's inventions developed from there and included all aspects of firearms manufacturing; his designs dominate the field even to this day. John M. Browning's contributions to firearms design probably influenced more firearms designs than any other firearms inventor and played a key role in influencing the outcome of wars from World War I until to the current war on terrorism....
