Some people may think that bottled water simply passes through filters that remove the chemicals in it, and while they are not wrong, they are still consistent. Bottled water is not only taken from streams and filters, but “40% of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources [i.e. tap water]” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014 . Par. 9). People drink bottled water so they don't have to drink tap water when in reality they are most likely drinking tap water mixed with bottled water. On top of that, not only was the bottled water filtered, but “22% of the bottled water brands tested contained chemical contaminants at levels higher than strictly sanitary” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014 . Par. 9). In other words, while the water may not have the same strange taste as tap water, it contains chemicals at levels that are unsafe to consume. When it comes to tap water that contains normal amounts of chemicals, bottled water is no longer safe
