Although Helen Keller died at age 87, blind and deaf, she had been an educator. Helen loved and cared about education and wanted other blind and/or deaf people to have the opportunity to receive it too. Knowing what it meant to be blind and deaf, he wanted to help others who were blind and deaf. Many people believe that Helen Keller was born blind and deaf, but she was not. It changed Helen's life at just 19 months old! She had fallen ill, most likely with scarlet fever, and had never fully recovered, because she had lost almost all her sight and could no longer hear.
