Everywhere anyone turns there are censors, protections against “explicit material” and pixels to blur middle fingers and body parts. If you turn on the television, there will be beeps and fuzzies between each channel and even parts will be taken out of movies due to content being censored by the public. Music and even television are censored to “prevent negative manifestations of cultures, individuals or communities” (“Revealed…”). Censorship mainly concerns parents and children, what they believe has the best and worst influence on them. Of course one can argue that censorship is mandatory, especially for children, but in truth censorship is not an essential nuisance. What these censors do is create a barrier for teenagers and pre-teens from reality and what actually happens in real life. In addition to protecting children from harmful material that a child should not see. Although censorship is necessary to protect children from explicit material, there is also too much of it in books, music and television. Books can be read to gain knowledge and increase one's reading level but not to come across offensive language and words Especially in school, children are censored by these controversial books in class. Parents are the ones who have difficulty letting their children read these books because they use swear words or have morals that are different from their personal values. As parents, it is their right to object to the banning of books that use language such as the “n-word” or negatively portrayed characters. Currently in the classroom, “race matters in these books. It depends on how you express it in the 21st century” (Schultz). When children read these novels they may think it is acceptable for them... middle of paper... to censor books, music and television. While parents may argue that all of these aspects should be censored for the sake of their children, they fail to take into account the fact that they have already been exposed to this type of thing before. Even if books are banned because they are controversial, this only deprives children of valuable lessons. Books also provide young people with different ideas and can help them understand that variation in ideas is important. Censorship and music have also often been debated, but music is everywhere censored and uncensored, so children are likely to listen to "inappropriate" songs. Finally, television is something that is censored all the time, while parents should decide what is censored and what is not. In conclusion, censorship is something that is becoming the topic of parents and children across America.
