“Fat Is a Feminist Issue” Susie Orbach's story, “Fat Is a Feminist Issue,” is a story that I and many other women, young and old, , we can tell A. It seems like every channel we listen to or watch has something to do with diet, exercise and procedures to eliminate fat. There are so many different claims about pills that will help us lose weight and even simply drop the weight without any change in diet or exercise. It's confusing trying to pinpoint the product that will be the best and work on an individual basis. Orbach says “fitness and beauty are every woman's goals.” In my opinion this is an exaggeration and not true. Many women don't care if they are physically fit and beauty is not a common goal. However, I will say that there are also many women who would like to be physically fit and enjoy the riches of makeup and frequent hair salons, but do not have the initiative to do so. Sometimes, they may be able to improve their fitness level, but don't have the money to purchase the products needed to help them achieve the beauty they desire. My argument, however, is that many women are confident and don't require "fitness and beauty" as Ms. Orbach claims. Later in the story, Mrs. Orbach discusses how fat women who ignore what the world believes, are fat and stay that way because of rebellion. “My fat says 'fuck you' to everyone who wants me to be the perfect mom, sweetie, and maid. Take me for who I am, not for who I should be. If you are truly interested in me, you can break through the layers and find out who I am.” Ms. Orbach states that "in this way fat expresses a rebellion... middle of paper... every woman wants to be that typical 'stereotype' that portrays the perfect, ideal woman. Achieving this is easy for some, but very difficult for others. It matters to every woman living in the world, as history seems to incline; no, not at all! It matters to the majority, yes, it probably does. However, it is certainly not something every woman thinks about, or will die for, if she is not the perfect “fit”. Every woman is unique and offers her own style and beliefs. Classifying every woman in a certain category is not the way of the world. yes, there is one, but not entirely. Being fat is a problem for both men and women, and some people care and some don't. That's the point! . Is a Feminist Issue. By Susie Orbach 2012.
