Topic > Argumentative Essay on Alternative Medicine - 790

Of all the controversies about medicine, alternative medicine is one of the biggest. Some say that alternative medicine is not medicine at all because it has not been scientifically proven or is not part of conventional teachings. Why do so many people seek alternative medicine? Alternative treatments are not recognized or considered sufficiently for children with serious conditions. There are many different types of alternative medicine. Acupuncture, herbal supplements, medical marijuana, manipulative therapy, reflexology, and yoga are a few different types of alternative medicines. There are several reasons why the mainstream medical community is often dismissive of alternatives. There has been little scientific research into this type of medicine, so there is very little evidence to support the claims of their proponents. There are strong arguments in favor of using alternatives. Despite the lack of scientific evidence, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that these therapies work. These treatments are not dangerous and offer little to no side effects. One of the strongest arguments for the effectiveness of alternative therapies is that conventional medicine is available for free and many people are willing to pay considerable sums for alternatives. If they were completely useless, it would be surprising if this continued. About 40% of Americans use some type of method outside the mainstream of conventional medicine. When you hear medications described outside the mainstream, you hear terms like complementary, alternative, or integrative medicine (CAM). Complementary medicine usually refers to medicine combined with conventional medicine. Alternative medicine usually refers... middle of paper... to a positive outcome, when traditional medicine has failed. Cannabis plants high in CBD have been shown to help children kill cancer cells and reduce epileptic seizures. The potential use to delay tumor growth and spread is even more attractive considering that cannabis shows a good safety profile, with regards to toxicity, and is already used in cancer patients as palliatives to stimulate appetite and to prevent devastating effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain. Children and their families gain strength when a sick child can eat and sleep, with positive outcomes for everyone. There are many different options available for how to administer cannabis. The pure extract of the plant is the most effective way to treat children suffering from conditions such as cancer and epilepsy. This can be administered directly under the tongue or in any food item.
