In 1995 the world wide web, also called the Internet, was created, although the Internet can be found as early as 1958. The Internet was where nerds hung out when it started, now everyone I'm on the Internet. In the millennium the web has become a worldwide phenomenon. Now you can order pizza from your computer, talk to your girlfriend or boyfriend, and even play with a friend in another country. With this new technology also comes a whole new set of crimes, such as stalking, hacking, cyberbullying, identity theft, and sexual crimes. The Internet has opened a whole new door to crime, it has also made it easier to commit them. This is why I think there should be stricter laws against cyber bullying because no one deserves the treatment kids like Amanda Todd received. One of the most talked about cyber crimes is cyber bullying. Cyberbullying is done via computer or text by a group of individuals. Once upon a time when you were bullied at school you were safe at home. Things have changed now that you are no longer safe at home, bullies may follow you home through your computer by texting you on your phone or commenting on you on Facebook. There have been many young victims of cyberbullying which has led them to commit suicide. After browsing many cyberbullying forums I noticed people saying things like "Just block them." and things like “These kids today have no backbone.” Which leads me to believe that these crimes are not taken as seriously as they should. Adults see it as kids being kids and kids see it as a little harmless fun. But the people who don't see these things as these are the victims... in the middle of the paper... like the kids are doing and whether they are being bullied or not.
