As much as these two stories differ, separated by years and miles, they are very similar to each other and contain the same basic principle in both stories. There are many different variations of the Cinderella story that follow a story where the main character is mistreated and then one day a big change occurs in her life and everything becomes better. However both stories revolve around the transformation of the main character's beauty, both focus on the main character's feet, for example in the Chinese variant, "The more he marveled at her beauty, the more determined he became to find the woman to marry." to whom the shoe belonged” (Ai-Ling, 4). Also seen in the Disney version “The Prince sent the Grand Duke to look for the girl who wore the glass slipper.” (Disney, 14). Chinese culture believes that beauty comes from the size of the female foot and that the smaller foot has always been understood as a more beautiful woman. This form of beauty was taken from Chinese culture and also used in the actual Cinderella story to show that Cinderella was beautiful.
