Smoking has become a major epidemic in the United States. As a tobacco-free person, I want to be able to breathe clean air wherever I go. As we know, smoking can damage every organ in the body (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I believe smoking should be banned in public places such as drinking establishments, hospitals, buses, train stations and restaurants. Smoking not only affects the individual smoker, but also causes a number of health problems, increases the mortality rate and affects not only the life, but also the health of other people around them. On the contrary, for these reasons smoking should be prohibited in public places. Smoking is not only bad for the internal environment, but also bad for the internal organs. Smoking can cause a number of diseases and reduce the overall health of smokers (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). When an individual smokes, they increase their chance of getting cancer of not only the lungs, but also other organs such as the bladder, mouth, stomach, liver, colon, and rectum, just to name a few (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) . Smoking is also known to cause leukemia. Every cigarette smoked affects breathing and causes scarring on the lungs (Be Tobacco Free). On the other hand, smoking increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease due to smoking. They are more likely to develop hypertension (high blood pressure), strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, etc. (American Heart Association). The chemicals in tobacco smoke damage blood cells and impair heart function (Be Tobacco Free). Conversely, a pregnant woman runs the risk of harming not only herself, but also her fetus before, during and after giving birth (March of Dimes). When a woman smokes during… middle of paper… the deal to quit smoking would result in an increase in her bank accounts. Money used to purchase cigarettes and medical expenses can really add up to something (smokefree.gov). In my opinion, great rewards come to those who conquer and win tough but tiring battles. Even though I still want to be able to breathe clean air in a smoke-free room, smoking will still be a major epidemic in this country. If smoking could be banned in drinking establishments, hospitals, buses, train stations, restaurants, etc., non-smokers could enjoy a smoke-free environment wherever they go. Smokers also have the option to quit smoking. They can always get helpful hints and tips, as well as using patches. Furthermore, the ban will help reduce health problems, reduce mortality rates and non-smokers and ex-smokers will be able to live happy and healthy lives..
