Topic > Monsanto Ethics Case - 1105

Monsanto seeds are protected by patent law and have had rulings in favor of the companies in cases involving the company's patented seeds. As with any large corporation, Monsanto's legal problems are not unique to its company. Some think that Monsanto seeds are a sterile “terminator” seed technology. “Activists and development advocates have raised the alarm that sterile “terminator” seed technology could be used to prevent Third World farmers from saving seeds and make them more dependent on biotechnology and seed companies.” (Glover, 2007). One should ask whether this new type of organic and GMO seed is useful for the world's food supply or for farmers who make a living from it.
