Story where my best friend at the time looked at me and asked if I had a green card. I knew what he was really trying to ask, but I sat there in disbelief because I thought he knew better than to ask such an offensive question. I knew what he was trying to ask me because it was a common question. He was trying to ask me if I was legally in the US or an "illegal alien". This is probably one of the most common questions I get that upsets me because I've been lumped into the stereotypical "illegal immigrant" category. It is even more offensive when they use the phrase “illegal alien.” I wouldn't find it offensive if the word "alien" wasn't also used to describe what you'd see in movies like "Alien Abduction".
