I myself have not set daily word goals every time I write because I like to write mostly what comes to mind almost immediately after it comes to mind. I think it would be helpful to have a daily word goal and I'm honestly thinking of having something like that in the future. However, I prefer to just express my opinion in writing without having to constantly check my word count to see if I've reached my daily word goal. This alone could be a distraction in and of itself. Not exactly jarring, mind you. Also, I always like to not check the word count after writing for a certain period of time. When I get tired, I check my word count and see how much I've accomplished. Usually what happens is that I get tired of the writing session, check the word count, and get a little impressed with myself for writing more than I initially thought before checking. This could potentially be used as a sort of push to keep you writing. It's that feeling of accomplishment I get after seeing if I've written, say, more than 100-200 words with what feels like only 50 words. But I could definitely see myself using a set daily word goal for future assignments if I ever have a bigger workload than I already have
