With new topics such as basic mathematics, parents are finding it difficult to assist their children with homework and other studies. Basic mathematics wasn't introduced until 2010; therefore, it is not only new to students, but also unfamiliar to parents. However, basic mathematics is just one example of the subjects that today's children have difficulty understanding. Students who fail in math and English are more likely to drop out of school by eighth grade; they feel like they aren't smart enough when the truth is they haven't been given a fair chance.
